Lightning Protection of Mosques

Camilerin Yıldırımdan Korunması

Mosque minarets are the structures most affected by lightning due to their pointed tips and high positioning. Mosques, which are vulnerable targets for lightning, are exposed to many dangers such as fire, collapse of minarets, and disruption of electrical installations.

The most useful method to protect mosques from lightning is to connect a catch terminal to the top of the finial located at the tip of the minarets.

Thus, the electric current targeting the mosque minarets is transmitted to the ground through conductive cables. In addition, by using internal lightning arresters (surge arresters), the external structure of the mosque, as well as its electrical/electronic systems and equipment, will not be damaged by high voltage.
